Vogue names Wizkid Nigeria’s Best-Dressed Pop Star
Wizkid has been named Nigeria’s best dressed pop
star by Vogue.com which also conducted an interview with him in a chat
via skype.The publication wrote
Read excerpts from his interview below“Wizkid is pretty much the biggest thing in Nigerian pop, which itself seems to advance on the global music stage almost as quickly as the country’s economy, one of the fastest growing in the world. He scored a massive smash last year with “Ojuelegba,” an insatiable rags-to-riches hit with a shoulder-shrugging Afrobeat, which inspired Drake to jump on a remix….”
What’s the shopping like in Lagos?
I have local tailors out there who make me traditional stuff. So I get material from Lagos, and I have them make me pieces. I mix them up with whatever I wear. I have a whole lot of tailors. The fabrics are from different parts of Nigeria. We have the tie and dye from the western part of Nigeria. We get stuff from the north. I mix it up.Do you wear a lot of traditional Nigerian clothes?
When I’m back home, all I wear is African fabric. All I really rock is the traditional stuff. That’s the in thing right now. That’s really coming back. Back in the day, our parents used to wear it every day, and they still do, but now it’s cool for wee young ones to wear it. It’s amazing. We’re doing it differently. We’re having it a little bit more fitted. We have styles on it, embroideries and stuff, by local people, made by hand, designed on it.What’s your process when you get something made for you?
I design everything myself, and I get them to make it. I do a little sketch; sometimes I just sit down with a tailor and describe what I want. Sometimes we go back and forth, like, for days, trying to get it right. Sometimes it’ll take a day to make it, sometimes three, four days. I have a lot of tailors. If I want something made in 12 hours, it will be made in 12 hours.
Everything is super-clean with you.
Fresh, fresh, fresh. That’s how I like to keep it. It’s hard for me to wear the same thing twice. You’re also not afraid to wear really skinny jeans.
No, I’m not afraid to wear skinny jeans! Yeah, I don’t care, man. I rock skinny jeans!Where do you live now? Are you clubbing? Is Lagos the place to be?
I live in Lekki now. There are new clubs popping up every day. We go to places like Escape, Sip, and it’s madness. December is the craziest time to be in Lagos. I just left there, so I’m pretty exhausted from going hard. Africa is the next thing right now. Talking fashion, music, anything—Africa is on top of all that

EFCC arrests former PDP acting chairman, Uche Secondus
The immediate past acting Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus, has been
arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,
EFCC. A statement by PDP's national legal adviser, Victor Kwon, says
Secondus is being accused of illegally receiving a number of buses and
demands that the buses be returned. The statement in part reads;
“The oppressive and unfair treatments against its key leaders by the Federal Government. The party alerts the nation that the arrest and detention of its Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is part of the grand script by the APC-led Federal Government to decimate the opposition,”. The statement alleged that there were plans by EFCC to “arrest and detain the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio and other leaders of the party on imaginary charges. Indeed, intelligence available to the party shows that the Federal Government, using its various agencies, is bent on destroying any opposition to the ruling party as all indications show that the government is more interested in humiliating the PDP than fighting corruption'.

Top 10 Notable Breakups in the Nigerian Music Industry
CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD UNLIMITED MP3 SONGS= www.sites.google.com/site/wwwprimemuzikcom/prime-music
Nothing seems to last for too long in this fast paced world where change has been said to be the only constant thing. Sadly though, changes of certain kinds are upsetting on the people involved and even observers of the ensuing drama. This brings us to the issue of popular music groups/collaborations “breaking up”.
We bring to you today a countdown of the top ten notable breakups in the Nigerian Music Industry climaxing with the most recent- that of everyone’s beloved Mo’hits crew.
10
Remedies- Comprising of the talented trio of rapper cum singer Eedris Abdulkareem, Tony Tetuila and Eddy Remedy, this was one of the groups that defined the style now known as “Naija Hip Hop”. The Remedies was formed in 1997 and hit songs like “shakamo” and “omoge” endeared them to millions of people all over West Africa. The group split up in 1999 when the henchman of the crew, Eedris Abdulkareem decided to launch a solo career.
Eedris Abdulkareem’s solo career started off to a glistening start with the release of 3 successful albums with the Kennis Music label imprint between 2002 and 2004. His fortunes however took a downturn in 2004 after a fracas with the American rapper 50 cent. His subsequent album “King is Back” was released on his La Crème record label and he is still has a visible presence on the naija music scene.
Tony Tetuila also did very well on his own with smash hit songs like “omode meta”, I’m in love with 2 women” and “my car” which became a street sensation. He has 5 albums to date.
The third member of the group Eddy Remedy was unfortunately not able to kick-start a successful solo career. He has an album “Leave Eddy Alone” to his credit.
9
Plantashun Boyz- This defunct group of 3 comprising of 2face, Faze and BlackFace needs no introduction, especially as one of them- 2face- has gone on to become a legend of African contemporary music. They released two albums, Body and Soul(2000) and Sold Out(2003) before going their separate ways in 2004.
2face has since gone on to release 4 multiple award winning albums (Face 2 Face (2004), Grass 2 Grace (2006), The Unstoppable (2008) and The Unstoppable International Edition in 2010, bag numerous prestigious awards and nominations and become an Icon of Nigerian and African Music all over the world.
Faze has released three albums since- Faze Alone (2004), “Independent” which spawned several hit singles in 2006 and Originality (2008).
BlackFace has only one album to his credit. He also co-wrote 2face’s breakthrough single- African queen.
The Plantashun Boyz collaborated on a reunion album titled “Plan B” in 2007.
8
Maintain- The trio of Olu, Tolu and Bamo came to national prominence on the back of hit songs like “I catch cold” and “Nibo la wa gbe lo”. After six albums between 1998 and 2004, the group split up after the exit of Olu in 2005.
Olu Maintain went on to release two albums- “Yahooze/Maintain Reloaded” a successful effort which spawned the mega hit single, “Yahooze” and Kentro World(2009).
Big Bamo released a well-received album “popotiti” but since seems to have taken a leave from recording music.
Except from occasionally featuring in a few songs Tolu has not had a significant solo career since the breakup of Maintain.
7
Eedris Abdulkareem and Kennis Music- The then number one Naija artiste parted ways with the premier record label after the 2004 scuffle between Eedris and 50 cent and it marked a significant change in the artiste’s career. The artiste released his fourth album on his own La Crème imprint but has subsequently signed back with Kennis Music.
6
2face and Kennis Music- After a mutually beneficial relationship that gave birth to 2 award winning albums, 2face left Kennis Music without much ado in 2008. He has his own record label- Hypertek Entertainment.
5
Kelly Handsome and…. You Know Already J- Kelly Handsome came to national prominence with the release of his chart topping hit single Maga in 2007. “Mr. Maga” left Kennis Music amidst a lot of controversy in 2010 and he has even been said to swear that he will never forgive Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye, the Kennis Music top men although he later tendered an apology. He released only one album (Too much money in 2008) on the Kennis records imprint.
4
9ice and Id Cabasa- Not too long after the release of platinum selling album “Gongo Aso” in 2007, 9ice and longtime friend and producer Id Cabasa fell out due to settlement and payment issues. “Basorun Gaa” does not seems to have been slowed down by this as he has within a short while built up his own record label, released 3 successful albums and has even signed a few upcoming acts as well.
The singer and ace producer seems to be back on good terms of recent and it will be interesting to see if they will still work together in the studio.
3
KC Presh- The flashy duo of KC and Presh won the first edition of Star’s yearly musical contest, Star Quest in 2002. They went on to release 5 albums before going their separate ways in 2011.
2
Mo’Cheddah and Knighthouse- It caught us all by surprise when we heard a few weeks ago that Mo”Cheddah was leaving the record label which had brought her to limelight after just 1 album which had given her recognition all over the continent. Mo’Cheddah is yet to announce her new plans as regards a management deal or recording contract.
1
Mo’Hits Records- Perhaps this should be titled D’Banj and Don Jazzy as the long term friends and associates have apparently made yet to be clearly announced changes in the structure of their record label. D’banj has 3 solo albums(No Long Thing(2005), Rundown/Funk U up(2006) and Entertainer in 2008). He also has 1 collaboration album with the other Mo’Hits artistes.

Cynthia Morgan Reveals That She Met Her Dad For The First Time At Seven
Dancehall singer, Cynthia Morgan, has revealed she laid eyes on her
father for the first time at the age of seven. She shared her experience
growing up in a single home. Here’s what she told prime music;;;
“The first time I met my father was when I was seven years old and I know what it feels like. There is the psychological effect that comes with growing up without your parents together as a kid. It is only few people like me that came out normal and I became determined to be successful in life so as to make my mother proud. Some people use that as an escape to be wayward and turn out to be a single parent just like their mothers who gave birth to them. They forget that no woman wishes to be a single parent if they really knew what they were going into. Everyone wants the best for their kids and having a father is one of those things.”

It was marketed to East Africans by the distribution platform Mdundo.
Ice Prince first announced the title and release timeframe of his second studio album during an interview with Toolz on NdaniTV's The Juice. He said: "I'm working on an album for 2013. I can't announce the date yet but later on in the year, there will be an album called the Fire of Zamani. One of the stories I'm trying to tell is that criticism brings out the beast and fire in you. Often being criticized from my first album, I'm working on the next album like I've never worked on anything in my life before. It's going to be awesome, I can guarantee you that. It's going to be great."[4] Furthermore, he said he heard the phrase Fire of Zamani while listening to 2face's The Unstoppable album. Fire of Zamani was initially scheduled for release on September 9, 2013 in order to commemorate the victims of a 2001 Jos crisis.[5][6]
On October 17, 2013, Ice Prince revealed the album's artwork as a collage consisting of small posters.[7] On October 21, 2013, Ice Prince released the tracklisting for Fire of Zamani.[8] The album is available on the Spinlet platform, a digital media library application similar to iTunes.[9][10]
In December 2013, Ice Prince held an album listening session at the Hilton Sandton in Johannesburg. He gave a detailed account of each song on the album and signed autograph copies of the album for each guest. The event was hosted by South African rapper Da L.E.S.[13]
On August 28, 2012, Ice Prince and Chocolate City also released the second single titled "More". The music video for "More" was shot and directed in London by Moe Musa. It stars Lola Rae, a British Nigerian recording artist known for her single, "Watch My Ting Go".[16][17]
On April 24, 2013, Ice Prince released the third single "Gimme Dat" featuring Yung L, Burna Boy, and Olamide. The song was also produced by Chopstix.[18] An alternative version of the song featuring Wande Coal surfaced on the internet after the release of the official version.[19]
On September 9, 2013, the Chocolate City rapper released the fourth single "I Swear" featuring French Montana and Shaydee.[20] The music video for the single was directed by J R Saint in the U.S.[21]

Fire of Zamani was met with mixed reviews from music critics. Tayo Ayomide of Nigerian Entertainment Today
gave the album 2.5 out of 5 stars, adding: "The lack of a solid theme
running through the LP makes the whole project sound all over the place.
It could have sounded better if Ice Prince’s writing was sharper but we
all know this is not his strong side. Instead Fire of Zamani is glued
with glossy beats, catchy hooks and over simple writing. There is a fire
inside of Ice Prince but it isn’t hot enough to melt his cold and
distant style of writing songs."[27]
Toye Trill of 9jaNinja gave the album a 4.8 out of 10, adding: "Overall the album was very tiring to listen to and offered very little excitement to the average Afro-Hip Hop enthusiast expecting a banger from his favorite artiste. To make things worse, there was so much reggae infusion into Ice' verses, that lyrically only few songs didn't have evidence of Ice Prince's inner rasta man, for a supposed rap album, it got annoying at a point. I honestly don't know how Ice came up with the title "Fire of Zamani", there was clearly no heat or burn from this album that we had not felt already from E.L.I. In fact the albums should switch names as it is clear from the delivery of this album, Ice Prince just took advantage of the love of fans for him to release this watery album. E.L.I definitely had more fire."[29]
Mackson Okotie gave the album 7 out of 10 stars, stating: "His lyrical prowess speaks volume of his passion, sweat and efforts in a bid to deliver as promised. #FOZ is a follow-up to his incredibly lauded debut – Everybody Loves Iceprince [E.L.I] The excitement about this album is really crazy as there has been a lot of buzz about it on Social Media. He tried to cover all genres of Nigerian music. Featuring the new school artistes and the oldies too. A big credit to him for that."[28]
Wilfred Okiche, a writer for YNaija.com, said: "Ice Prince is not the artiste some would wish him to be but he is exactly the kind that sells millions of records and hangs around for as long as he keeps making the hits. Malleable, discerning and calculative, he knows what the vast majority wants and dishes it in piles. ‘Fire of Zamani’ burns as bright as he wants it to, with Ice carefully dousing the flames anytime they threaten to spread beyond his control zone. The songs glide by easily and go

Ovie O of Notjustok said: "Fire of Zamani is not that regular just-for-the-sake-of-it kind of album nor is it a follow-up to the timeless debut album,“Everyone Loves Ice Prince (E.L.I)”. Fans can expect a lot more music in the fusion of melodies and harmonies. This album takes us back to Church where Ice Prince started, and is a perfect balance between hip-hop and pure music. More pidgin than all English. A touch on the daily struggles and a celebration of success. The underlying theme is a message of hope. Ice Prince’s versatility, maturity and messages are obvious and clear on the album." [25]Onos O of Bellanaija added: "With a truck load of features and production credits from the likes of Don Jazzy, Chopstix and Sammy Gyang, this is definitely an album to look forward to." [26]
